Author’s Biography




Author Biography : 
The author of The Awakening is Kate Chopin, her maiden name was Katherine O'Flaherty. She was born on February 8,1857 in St. Louis. Before she became a writer she studied piano, wrote poetry, and got inspired by different authors including Dicken, Austen, Gothe, De Staël, and the Brohtës. Kate married Oscar Chopin on June 8,1870. Oscar and Kate had 6 children and were married for 12 years before he unfortunately died of Malaria. After he died she grew inspired to write 4 novels, she wrote At Fault (1890) Bayou Folk (1894) A Night In Acadie (1897) The Awakening (1899). When she published The Awakening, many people were not very pleased with the novel. Readers of The Awakening did not like the inappropriate sexual references and the main characters suicide which led to the book being banned from schools. Kate died on August 22nd 1904 due to a hemorrhage stroke.
